Career & College Readiness

Industry engagement is woven throughout our Careers and College Readiness system, including structured opportunities for collaboration, feedback, and shared leadership. Partners participate in key events such as the Inaugural ASJUSD CCR Industry Partner Launch, District Advisory Board Convenings, Career and College Expo, CTE Advisory Committee meetings, Leadership Industry Partner Field Visits, Anzar Shake, and Post Graduate Service Learning Reflections. Through integrated Work-Based Learning and Project-Based Learning trainings and ongoing convenings, industry professionals help strengthen program alignment, inform curriculum, and support authentic student experiences. These intentional touchpoints ensure sustained partnerships that elevate student learning while responding to regional workforce needs.

Work-Based Learning is a key component of the Aromas-San Juan Unified School District Careers and College Readiness System, providing students with meaningful opportunities to connect classroom learning to real-world application. Through a structured continuum—Awareness, Exploration, Training, and Preparation—students engage in experiences that move from learning about careers to learning through and for work. These experiences include guest speakers, industry tours, job shadowing, internships, certifications, student-run enterprises, and extended service learning projects. Each level is intentionally designed to build transferable skills, deepen career knowledge, foster direct engagement with industry partners, and create authentic learning experiences that prepare students for post-secondary education and future careers.

Our Advisory Board serves as a cornerstone of our industry engagement strategy, ensuring that our pathway programs remain rigorous, relevant, and aligned with workforce and post-secondary expectations. Composed of at least 80% industry representatives, alongside educators and post-secondary partners, the Advisory Board provides formal recommendations on pathway expansion, equipment, curriculum, teacher professional development, and budget priorities. Meeting a minimum of three times annually, the Board plays a pivotal role in creating and sustaining high-quality Work-Based Learning experiences, securing internships for capstone students, supporting fundraising efforts, strengthening public relations, and contributing in-kind resources. Through active leadership, shared governance, and ongoing collaboration, the Advisory Board bridges classroom instruction with industry standards, helping prepare students for success in higher education, their careers, and life.
