Arts Integration Parent Information

Arts integration is a teaching approach that connects the visual and performing arts with core academic learning. When students draw, create, move, perform, or design as part of a lesson, they are not only building arts skills—they are also strengthening their understanding of reading, writing, math, science, and social studies in meaningful and engaging ways.

Arts learning supports the whole child by developing creativity, communication, collaboration, and confidence. Research also shows that the arts help students learn to think in flexible ways, explore multiple perspectives, and express ideas that may be difficult to put into words. The resource Ten Lessons the Arts Teach highlights how arts experiences help students make thoughtful judgments, solve problems in more than one way, and deepen their ability to feel, interpret, and understand the world.

This page includes family resources and links to the California State PTA Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) guides, along with additional reading to help families learn more about the value of arts education and how arts integration supports student success.
