The Commission on Teacher Credentialing has published a "How to Become a Teacher in California" Guide to help potential candidates learn more about the process. Many programs are online and offer options to teach while you are completing your program as an intern teacher.

CTEPathwayTeach while earning your Credential!  To qualify for a Three Year Preliminary CTE Credential, you need to meet the following criteria:

• A High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
• At least three years of work experience in the career technical subject area you plan to teach.  One year of work experience must be within the past 5 years or 2 years of work experience must be within the past 10 years.

Aromas/San Juan Unified is looking for Substitute Teachers to assist in our classrooms when our educators are absent. A Substitute Teacher is paid $220.00 per day, or $120.00 for a half day. We also offer substitute incentives and training for new substitutes using SubSchool. We are happy to assist you with obtaining your substitute permit or you can apply online directly with the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Here are the requirements to obtain a Substitute Permit:

• Complete the Form 41-4 online on the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) website.  Once complete, download, sign and bring the form to our HR Department. 
• Bachelor's Degree at an Accredited Institute of Higher Education (original transcripts sent to HR by email or in a sealed envelope are required)
• Fingerprint or a Certificate of Clearance with the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. This is separate from any fingerprinting you will have done for a district to be a substitute. The current cost for the Live Scan for the Commission is $69.00, payable in cash or check when you have your prints rolled at our district office.

Contact our HR Department - we can walk you through the process and file all your paperwork directly to the CTC.

Are you interested in working with Preschool Age Children? There are many opportunities available in the preschool setting from being an Instructional Aide, Master Teacher or Site Supervisor that do not require a college degree. Visit the CTC website to view the requirements and FAQ's about the Childhood Development Permit options.

Instructional Aides/Para Professionals are integral to any school in both General and Special Education. These employees offer invaluable support to both the classroom teacher and the students.

As an Aide, you can work in various classroom settings from Preschool, TK/Kindergarten, General Education as a 1:1 or Special Education. Qualifications vary for different positions. At ASJUSD, we will work with our Instructional Aides in providing necessary training including QBS - Quality Behavior Support.

San Juan School qualifies candidates for the Golden State Teacher Grant Program, which offers substantial financial aid to individuals preparing to enter teaching careers.
