Alcohol & Other Drug Prevention

Aromas-San Juan Unified School District is committed to supporting students in making safe and healthy choices. Substance use can have serious impacts on a student’s health, well-being, and academic success.

We provide information, resources, and support to help prevent the use of alcohol and other drugs and to guide students toward positive decision-making.

Why Prevention Matters

Alcohol and drug use can affect a student’s physical health, mental well-being, and ability to succeed in school. Early use is linked to increased risks, including addiction and long-term health concerns.

Prevention starts with education, awareness, and strong support systems at school and at home.

Supporting Healthy Choices

Our schools promote healthy decision-making by:

  • Providing age-appropriate information about the risks of substance use
  • Encouraging positive peer relationships and student engagement
  • Connecting students to trusted adults and support services
  • Partnering with families to reinforce healthy behaviors
  • Support for Students

If a student needs help, support is available. Our goal is to connect students with the resources they need in a supportive and respectful way.

Support may include:

  • Conversations with school staff
  • Referrals to counseling or community resources
  • Connections to prevention or intervention services

Partnering with Families

Families play an important role in prevention. Talking with your child about alcohol and drug use, setting clear expectations, and staying involved can make a meaningful difference.

For additional information on youth substance use prevention, families can visit trusted resources such as the CDC Free Mind website or SAMHSA.

If you have concerns or need assistance, please contact your school site for support and guidance.
