Body Image & Self-Esteem
Aromas-San Juan Unified School District is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students. Body shaming which is making negative comments about a person’s body size, shape, or appearance can be harmful and impact a student’s confidence, mental health, and ability to learn.
We work to prevent and address body shaming through education, awareness, and clear expectations for respectful behavior. This includes:
- Promoting kindness, respect, and inclusion
- Encouraging positive body image and self-esteem
- Teaching students about the impact of words and actions
- Responding to incidents of bullying or harassment
- Supporting Positive Self-Image
Students today may face pressure from social media, peers, and unrealistic standards. Building a healthy self-image helps students develop confidence and resilience.
Families can support students by:
- Encouraging open conversations
- Focusing on strengths and personal qualities
- Promoting healthy habits rather than appearance
- Modeling positive language about body image
Resources for Students & Families

Partnering with Families
We encourage families to talk with their children about respect, self-esteem, and the impact of words. If you have concerns about your child or need support, please contact your school site.
