Anissa Dizon: Board President | Trustee Area 4 | Term Expires 2026

As someone who grew up in San Juan, attended San Juan School, and now serves as the board trustee for District Area 4, Anissa Dizon is deeply committed to the success of the Aromas-San Juan Unified School District. She and her family returned to San Juan Bautista in 1997 when her first child was born, and throughout the years, her three children attended San Juan School and Anzar High School while she served as a teacher in the district.
Anissa holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Development from UC Davis and a Master’s in Interdisciplinary Education from Santa Clara University. Over the course of more than two decades in education, she has had the privilege of working with learners at every stage of life—from caring for infants and toddlers in a Montessori school, teaching preschoolers at a Head Start program, and supporting elementary and middle school scholars, to teaching high school scholars and even preparing future educators in an online teaching credential program at Stanford University. Today, she serves as a TK–8 principal, where she understands the ins and outs of running a school and the systems needed to ensure success for all scholars.
This breadth of experience has given Anissa a unique perspective on how children learn and grow, the importance of equity in education, and the vital role schools play in shaping communities. She is deeply invested in our community schools and committed to continually learning and growing so she can best serve our district.
Anissa brings to the board her background as a parent, educator, administrator, and community member, which allows her to offer diverse perspectives, strong leadership, and a collaborative spirit. Her focus remains on strengthening what makes our schools great while advancing effective teaching and learning practices to meet the high standards our scholars deserve. With a proactive and positive approach, she will continue to advocate for our scholars and families while making fair, informed decisions that benefit everyone in our community.

Jennie Clayton: Board Clerk | Trustee Area 1 | Term Expires 2028

Jennie Clayton is a parent, active community member, and elected governing board member of the Aromas-San Juan Unified School District since November 2024. Her commitment to public education is deeply rooted in her own experiences as a product of public K–12 schools and universities. She holds an undergraduate degree in Legal Studies from UC Berkeley and a Master’s in Social Work with a dual concentration in Mental Health and School Social Work from San José State University. As both a board member and the parent of an ASJUSD 6th grader who has been in the district since preschool, Jennie brings a thoughtful blend of personal investment, professional insight, and community partnership to her leadership.
Professionally, Jennie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Statewide Mental Health Pre-Release Coordinator for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), where she serves as a subject matter expert in reentry mental health and oversees the Institutional Mental Health Pre-Release Programs for 16 of the 31 California state prisons. Her work gives her a unique perspective on the long-term impact of early support in schools, reinforcing her commitment to prevention-focused approaches within ASJUSD.
Jennie also serves as an appointed member of the Monterey County Behavioral Health Commission, is an active Rotarian supporting youth and community initiatives, and sits on several local scholarship committees.
On the school board, Jennie champions social-emotional learning, student mental health, and early intervention—key strategies she believes are essential in reducing the school-to-prison pipeline. She advocates for systems that identify and support student needs early, as well as for expanding opportunities to earn college credit, such as through Hawk Academy (having benefited from a similar program), ensuring that all children feel connected, safe, and able to succeed. Jennie is committed to transparent, community-guided decision-making and to strengthening the relationships among families, educators, and school staff. Her goal is to ensure that every student graduates prepared for college or careers, with the emotional and academic foundation they need to thrive.
Through her combined experience as a parent, licensed mental health professional, and public servant, Jennie Clayton remains dedicated to building strong, equitable school environments that help every student thrive and find their own version of success."

As a parent and board member, Kristen has been interested in the district’s efforts to bring music and the arts back to each school. She also has stressed the importance of developing extracurricular activities and second language opportunities for all students in each school. In addition, she underscores the importance of a focus on Anzar High School. Kristen’s husband is a graduate of Aromas School and Anzar and Kristen is looking forward to sending her two children to Anzar to continue the family tradition.
Kristen is most proud of the parent involvement in our district which unites the community in support of the schools and the children they serve. She points to the successful bond campaign supported by the board and its voters and the attendance at various district town halls as signs of the unity and excitement at the progress being made first in the rebuilding of San Juan School and now the current plans being discussed for continuing the work at Aromas School and Anzar. She also recognizes progress being made as graduation rates are improving at Anzar and the focus on math in early grades shows promise.
