Inter/Intradistrict Transfers

Board Policy & Administrative Regulation

The Board approved the following revisions to their policies at the December 17, 2025 Board meeting: 

• Board Policy 5117 
• Administrative Regulation 5117 

Beginning with the 2026–27 school year, the district will institute a maximum cap on the percentage of new outgoing interdistrict transfer applications that may be approved. Renewal requests are not subject to the cap

The Superintendent or designee may approve an interdistrict transfer for one or more of the following reasons:

Student Eligibility & Legal Protections

• Student qualifies under the McKinney-Vento Act
• Student is the child of an active-duty military parent (Ed Code 46600)
• Student is a verified and documented victim of pervasive bullying (Ed Code 46600)

Academic & Program-Based Reasons

• Student is in their final year at a school site outside the district
• Student seeks a board-approved specialized program awarding A-G graduation credit not offered in ASJUSD

Family & Personal Circumstances

• Student has a sibling enrolled in the requested district
• Student has a documented health, emotional, or social need
• Parent/guardian is physically employed within the boundaries of the requested district

Requests outside of these categories may be denied.

Revocation of Interdistrict Transfers

Per California Education Code sections 46600–46601, either the home district or receiving district may revoke an interdistrict transfer agreement.

A transfer may be revoked or rescinded for reasons including, but not limited to:

• Excessive tardies or absences
• Failure to meet behavior expectations
• Poor academic performance
• Submission of false or misleading information
• Other conditions that make continuation inadvisable

Sibling Placement

The district makes every effort to keep siblings together whenever possible. Placement is subject to space availability and the Enrollment Cap contained in Board Policy 5117.

If the requested school does not have capacity at all applicable grade levels, the district may deny transfer or enrollment requests for all siblings.
