Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
I trust your summer is going well so far! Summer school was a success and we are busy readying the campus for you to return in August.
I wanted to inform you of a decision Anzar staff has made over the last year. After many hours of reflection and brainstorming, we are making an adjustment to our program. Tutorial time after school has not been used as effectively as it could. To improve the effectiveness of Tutorial and our program, Academic Focus Time, AFT, (previously known as Tutorial) will now take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays during what was previously, SSR/H during the school day. Just as before, students earning lower than a C in a class, or who have been recommended, will be assigned to that specific AFT for the next grading period. After the grading period ends, if the grade has improved, that student will be able to choose where to spend their AFT time. Students who are not assigned to a mandatory AFT will be able to choose which AFT class to spend their time in for that grading period.
In place of Mandatory Tutorial after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45-3: 05 pm, teachers will be offering Intervention/Extension classes called Enrichment. We will pilot this first with Math enrichment. Students who have been identified as someone who would benefit from the Math enrichment will be assigned to these classes, just as they were for Mandatory Tutorial. Transportation will still be provided after Enrichment on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We understand that this is an adjustment and change can be worrisome. However, we are confident that this will be a much better use of our time on campus and that Anzar students will see even more success.
If you have questions, please feel free to email or school loop me. I am happy to address any concerns you may have.
I’m looking forward to seeing you in August!
Sincerely,
Angela Crawley
