Good afternoon, Aromas Families-- Our Bus 2 was in a rear-ender accident a short while ago. All students and driver are fine. The District Office is sending over another bus to pick up students and make their drop-offs. It is anticipated that students will be dropped off between 4:00-4:30 p.m. Thank you for your patience and understanding! Buenas tardes, Familias Aromas-- Nuestro autobús 2 sufrió un accidente por detrás hace poco. Todos los estudiantes y el conductor están bien. La Oficina del Distrito está enviando otro autobús para recoger a los estudiantes y dejarlos. BUS TRANSPORTATION ISSUE - PARENTS NEED TO SIGN A NOTE This year we are fortunate to have hired a Transportation Coordinator, Maria Solano. She is helping us follow best practices for keeping students safe and keeping us legally compliant. She has brought an issue to my attention that I need your help with. Our ASJUSD School Safety Plan includes a section on School Bus Transportation and the loading of student passengers at bus stops. I want to bring the following excerpt to your attention: “Students shall board and exit only at their designated school bus stop. In the event that a stop must be changed temporarily, a signed note from the parent or guardian of the student must be submitted to the School Office and a copy given to the driver prior to entering the bus and must include a valid contact phone number.” The problem is that we have a number of students who spontaneously decide to ride a friend’s bus home to the friend’s house or other location. We cannot continue to allow this to happen. First, we have no accurate list of who we picked up and where they were unloaded, should a student go missing. Second, some of our buses cannot take additional students as they are at full capacity. Third, for insurance purposes, we need parent permission via the signed note before we can take on that liability. Please talk with your children and let them know we will be refusing their admission to the bus unless they have a signed note from the parent and this note has been approved through their school principal’s office. Good afternoon, Aromas Families-- There is a fire currently burning in Watsonville. Monterey County has issued an evacuation order for Vega Road and surrounding areas. The school is not in the evacuation zone at the current time so our afterschool programs and volleyball practice will continue as usual. There is a lot of smoke blowing through our campus so you may want to come and pick up your child early. We will be monitoring the situation and will keep you informed if the evacuation orders change.
