#WeAreASJUSD Newsletter July 2024
This year I am planning to send you one newsletter at the end of each month. This newsletter will include a brief recap on important items from the past weeks, a look forward to what’s coming, and reminders about important dates and special alerts. A streamlined approach-with more bite-sized information!
Sincerely,
Barbara Dill-Varga, Ed.D
Superintendent, Aromas-San Juan Bautista USD
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Data Confirmation is Here!
Parents, please look out for a link that will be sent to you via ParentSquare on Monday, July 29th. The link will remain open until August 16.
We are asking all parent/guardians to take 10-15 minutes to visit their Aeries Parent Portal in order to verify all of their student(s) information before we begin the school year.
Need an Aeries Parent Portal Account? Click here for instructions on how to create an account. It is important that every parent/guardian has created and has access to a Parent Portal account. It is our hope that the data confirmation provides you with important District and school information as well as a more streamlined way to complete your annual update.
During Data Confirmation, you will:
Update/confirm address, emergency contact, health and other important information for your student(s) as well as email and cell phone information.
Complete required annual authorizations such as regarding technology use and sign up for services such as bus transportation.
Sign up to participate in our afterschool programs.
One of the most important forms we ask you to complete during Data Confirmation is the Free and Reduced Lunch Application. Although ASJUSD will continue to provide free lunch to all of our students in the 24-25 school year, these form submissions allow ASJUSD to receive reimbursements, grants and additional funding that support our programs and food service department, so we can continue to provide free lunches for all.
Once you have completed the Data Confirmation Process, you will be asked to print and sign your Emergency Card. The Emergency Card Page will need to be returned to your student’s school office to confirm completion of the process. (Note: If you do not have access to a printer, please save the document as a PDF and bring it to the school for the site secretary to print, or come to the office to have it printed.)
Thank you for your patience as we make this transition!
Please contact your site secretary should you have any issues with data confirmation or accessing your Aeries Parent Portal account.
DATA CONFIRMATION ASSISTANCE:
Each site will have additional Chromebooks set up for parent/guardians who may need assistance with Data Confirmation. We have scheduled the following dates. If you are unable to make one of these dates, please contact your site secretary to schedule a time to complete the process. You can go to any site to complete the process.
Aromas School: July 30-31 from 9AM-3PM
Anzar High School: August 1st - 2nd from 9AM-3PM

Summer Highlights!
Summer School, ASJ+ Recap!
A very successful summer school this year was held at Aromas School and Anzar High School. Until San Juan School is built, we will be using these campuses for summer programming. It was a summer of academics and enrichment!
We had 58 middle and high school students attending at Anzar.
240 credits were recovered by high school students working at the high school.
Youth Alliance was our extended day program partner serving an additional 96
students and 60% of those students also received academic interventions.
Students had field trips to: The Forest of Nisene Marks and Seacliff Beach State Parks,
and Horse Play Youth.
Many enrichment activities also took place: Storytelling Workshops, Dance Classes, Sports Camps for Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, and Cross Country.

Construction: HVAC, San Juan Project, F Cluster
Air Conditioning: Hooray! Installation of the HVAC units will be ready for use by the time students return in August. This summer the focus was on classrooms at Aromas and Anzar. The new San Juan school will be air conditioned once built.
San Juan Project: The focus this summer was renovating the Middle School three classrooms known as the F-Cluster at San Juan School. Because these classrooms will NOT be part of the new construction, we decided to renovate them as part of our ongoing Learning Spaces Program. Students in these three rooms will see freshly painted walls, new flooring, and new furniture to welcome them back in August!
San Juan School: We are still working through some required approvals and compliance issues required by the State of California. We have submitted our final designs and are awaiting approvals. We have been partnering with Flint Builders, while AMS is the company building the modular classrooms. We are expecting the actual construction to start hopefully in January. Meanwhile, Flint has reconfigured existing spaces as temporary classrooms to be used for the first year of the project. For example, this summer the current library has been transformed into three classroom spaces. Once we are able to start, the entire Project will take about two years to complete in at least two phases. We will need to be patient, but the end result is going to be beautiful and worth it!
