#WeAreASJUSD Newsletter June 2025

This is our last newsletter of the 2024-2025 school year, where I’ve highlighted  information about past events as well as a few details about  what is to come.

I wish for you a summer of rest and reconnection. Even though we  have much to be proud of this year, we are not resting on our laurels, but are  busy planning for 25-26! Thank you for your support of our schools and our employees whose singular focus is to help your children learn and grow!

Back to School Reminders!

Instructional calendars for the upcoming three years can be found on our website, Click here to view our 2025-26 Academic Calendar.

Please note that your summer will be about one week longer this year as the start date for all students is: Thursday,  August 14, 2025.

Data Confirmation Dates - Mandatory Enrollment Process

In July, Aromas-San Juan Unified will be launching the Annual Data Confirmation process in Aeries, a process that many other districts already use and is now a required annual step for all ASJUSD families. While this may be new for ASJUSD, it is an important best practice that helps us ensure we have accurate, up-to-date information for every student before the school year begins.

Through Data Confirmation, families will:

  • Confirm your student’s enrollment for the upcoming school year

  • Review and update emergency contact and medical information

  • Complete annual forms and permissions that are required by law and by the District

Accurate information is essential for student safety and communication, and confirming your child’s enrollment also helps us plan staffing and class placements. If Data Confirmation is not completed, your student will not be placed in a class or assigned a teacher.

You can complete the process from home on a desktop or laptop computer. If you need help or access to a computer, support will be available at each school site on the dates listed in the flyer linked on the right and can be downloaded here. (Note: Due to limited screen space, Data Confirmation cannot be completed on a smartphone.)

We encourage all families to mark your calendars now and plan to complete Data Confirmation as early as possible. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure a smooth and safe start to the school year!

May Board Meeting

Reclassification Celebration – May 14 Board Meeting

At the May 14 Board Meeting, Aromas-San Juan Unified School District proudly recognized over 50 of our recently reclassified English Learner students. These students have demonstrated significant growth in English proficiency and academic achievement, earning the distinction of Reclassified Fluent English Proficient (RFEP).

Families were invited to attend as students were honored with certificates and celebrated for their hard work and perseverance. This milestone reflects both student dedication and the ongoing support of teachers, staff, and families.

Meet Toaster: ASJUSD’s Beloved Emotional Support Dog

Students and staff across Aromas-San Juan Unified School District have a new furry friend bringing joy, calm, and connection to our campuses—Toaster, our certified emotional support dog.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of Monkey Tail Ranch and its donors, Toaster was placed with our district free of charge. Their support ensures that Toaster can continue his important work in our schools, helping students feel seen, supported, and safe. We are deeply grateful for their partnership and belief in the power of animal-assisted education.

Toaster visits all three ASJUSD campuses and is already making a meaningful impact. Teachers across grade levels are integrating Toaster into their curriculum in creative and engaging ways. Students buddy read aloud to him, practice narrative writing inspired by his adventures, solve math word problems that feature his daily activities, and even explore conflict resolution and social-emotional topics with Toaster as a comforting presence in the room.

Want to see more of Toaster’s day-to-day life in ASJUSD? Follow his journey on Instagram at @mtr.toaster!

We’re thrilled to have Toaster as part of our school community and grateful to Monkey Tail Ranch for making this possible.

Anzar’s New Bell Schedule:

7 Periods Instead of 6

Starting this fall, Anzar will be offering students a schedule that provides a choice for a seventh class. This is the result of research into best practices regarding instructional time and schedules started in March of 2023 by a collaborative group of teachers and the principal, voted on by the Anzar High School staff, and subsequently negotiated by ASJTA with the district administration.  In this new schedule, students may choose another elective or  they can use the period for credit recovery.

The school day will begin and end at the same times, but class periods are somewhat shorter to allow this flexibility.. Block classes that were 110 minutes will now be 95 minutes in length. Non Block classes will be 50 minutes instead of 55. This change will also allow teachers to have a second preparation period, so they can collaborate together as departments on curriculum development and analysis of data to inform instructional decisions to help all students reach their potential.

This new schedule will: maintain the same amount of instructional minutes for students; maintain the same start and end time of the school day; guarantee that students can meet the A-G requirements; provide greater flexibility for students to access their preferred classes and respect contractual obligations of a 7.5 hour workday for teachers.
