The Aromas San Juan Unified School District is asking for feedback on the 2022-23 Transportation Plan. Following our recent school closures due to extreme weather conditions and pursuant to Board Policy 6158, we are offering short-term independent study to be made available to any student, that as a result of school closures, feels they are falling behind academically.
Please visit your school office for a short-term independent study master agreement. As a reminder, independent study is not mandatory for any student.

Dear ASJUSD Family:
Late this afternoon, we have received some indication from news sources and our local officials that Highway One may start to reopen later this evening into tomorrow morning. I am hopeful, but not convinced, that the traffic congestion will disappear tomorrow. With an abundance of caution, we are holding to the plan for remote/distance learning for THURSDAY, MARCH 16. Many parents have picked up chromebooks/chargers to support their students and teachers are prepared to make this temporary instructional shift. We will evaluate the situation tomorrow and be in touch with any changes to our current plan. If all returns to normal, we can return as soon as Friday to in-person instruction for our students who live in and around Aromas. Again, thank you for your patience as we try to meet the needs of all of our students during the aftermath of this unprecedented weather event.

Dear ASJUSD Family:
The recent weather events have made travel to Aromas difficult at best for parents dropping off students and for our school buses. Travel times for some have ranged from 1- 2 hours to travel short distances. We have tried to obtain some traffic control relief without success, therefore, for hopefully just the next few days, Aromas will be closed to all students. We are moving to remote instruction for Aromas effective Thursday, March 16, 2023. Our buses will NOT be able to transport students from Aromas to either Aromas or Anzar. Principal Heather Howell is sending out a specific message to Aromas parents about this shift with instructions about how to pick up chromebooks today, if needed.
Anzar High School will remain open. Anzar students who have an Aromas zip code and are experiencing difficulty getting to school, will also be allowed to access their school instruction via Google Classroom and other online tools.
San Juan School will remain open.
I sincerely hope these necessary adjustments are only for the next few days. We will communicate with you in the next few days as we learn about next week.

Los recientes fenómenos meteorológicos han hecho que viajar a Aromas sea, en el mejor de los casos, difícil para los padres que dejan a los estudiantes y para nuestros autobuses escolares. Los tiempos de viaje para algunos han oscilado entre 1 y 2 horas para viajar distancias cortas. Hemos tratado de obtener algo de alivio del control de tráfico sin éxito, por lo tanto, con suerte solo durante los próximos días, Aromas estará cerrado para todos los estudiantes. ASJUSD Schools will be open tomorrow, Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
As a reminder: San Juan School and Aromas School also have parent teacher conferences Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday with an early dismissal day schedule all three days at 1:15pm. Please contact your child’s teacher if you need to conduct your conference through zoom. Although it seems the worst of the weather has concluded, we will still be monitoring whether our major driving arteries (129, 156, 101, etc) remain open. If flooding or downed trees makes them impassable, we may need to alter these plans in the early morning and inform you through our communication channels hopefully by 6:30 am. (email, text, ParentSquare, website) In addition, we know that the traffic by Aromas School, caused by the closure of Route 1, has made travel extremely difficult. We have contacted CHP and other agencies to see if they can assist us with traffic flow, but they are stretched to their limit and may not be of much assistance. Please know that we will excuse absences for children if parents decide they are unable to make it to school during this difficult week. We appreciate the continued cooperation and understanding of our families and community as we deal with the ongoing impacts of these winter storms.

Dear ASJUSD Family:
Schools will be open tomorrow, Monday, March 13, 2023. We understand that a few areas remain impacted by the flooding (Murphy Hill, for example.) and we will respect parent decisions to keep children home, if necessary. The current forecast for Monday night into Tuesday is concerning, however. If that weather event materializes, we will close schools on Tuesday and confirm that Monday evening.
